My name is Alex and I grew up in England but I have been speaking German since I was seven years old, when I began learning the language as a hobby with a native speaker. I took my GCSE a year early as an external student, and later went on to read Modern Languages at Oxford University. During my degree, I lived in Stuttgart for a year, teaching English in a German grammar school. Since graduating, I have worked mainly as a magazine writer and editor for national publications in the UK, but I have maintained my linguistic fluency through my work as a language tutor and my interest in German culture.
I am passionate about language learning and love to share this through creative yet structured sessions with plenty of interaction, games and role play, plus a varied mix of reading, writing, listening and speaking tasks. I always employ a flexible approach and shape my lessons around students’ needs or particular interests. Through one-to-one tuition, I enable language learners to make accelerated progress – I currently teach up to Goethe-Zertifikat B2 (A Level). As both a linguist and editor, I have a solid understanding of grammar and how to explain it in a user-friendly and engaging way.
